Dr. Andrew D. Estill Died at his Home Christmas Day
Dr. Andrew Davidson Estill, a well known physician of Lexington, died at his home on Washington street, Lexington, Christmas Day shortly before 2 o'clock, aged 57 years. He had been in failing health for several years, and died from effects of liver trouble. He had sought treatment at the hosptial, but the relief was not permanent.
Dr. Estill was a public-spirited man and served his town and county for years with singular ability as health officer and coroner, and was county health officer at the time of his death. During his incumbency as health officer for Lexington he introduced many reforms for the betterment of sanitary conditions in the community. He was a member of the town council of Lexington with Mayor Pierson during the term 1903-'05. For several years he was resident physician at Rockbrid Alum Springs.
Dr. Estill was born in Tazewell county, Va., Aug. 22, 1844. His father was Dr. J. M. Estill and his mother was a Miss Davidson. He was the last member of his father's family. Dr. Estill came to Lexington in the early '80's and established a foundry and machine works at East Lexington under the firm name of Joliffe & Estill. This operated for some years. afterwards he entered the medical school of the University of Virginia and graduated in medicine and located in Lexington for the practice of his profession. He was a communicant of the Presbyterian church and a member of the Masonic fraternity.
In September, 1883, he married Miss Clara Davidson, a daughter of the late Mr. James D. Davidson. She survives.
The funeral will be held at the Presbyterian church Thursday morning at 11 o'clock.
