Curtis C. Conner, 1954

CONNER, Curtis C., 72, of Lexington, died Saturday, August 19, 1995 in the Shenandoah Valley Health Care Center, Buena Vista. He was born on October 28, 1922 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late George William Conner and Cora Belle Womeldorf Conner. Mr. Conner retired as manager of the Alcohol Beverage Control Stores after thirty years service. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in the China Burma India Theater. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post No. 1499, Lexington; a fifty year member of the American Legion Post No. 126, Buena Vista, also a member of the D.A.V. Mr. Conner was a member of Knights Templar Commandery No. 27, Lexington. He was Past Chancellor Commander and Secretary of Knights of Pythias, No. 66, Lexington; a member of Rajath Temple No. 195, Roanoke; Past Worshipful Master of Mountain City Lodge No. 67 A F & A M, Lexington; Past District Deputy Grand Master of the 20th Masonic District; a member of Royal Arch Chapter No. 44, Lexington, also a member of Kazim Temple of Roanoke. Mr. Conner was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Avaretta Depoy Conner; a son and daughter-in-law, Keith A. and Karen C. Conner of Palmdale, California; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen C. and Dave Lape of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; three brothers, Garland Conner of Clifton Forge, Bernard Conner of Hampton, and Buford Conner of Stafford; five grandchildren, Christopher, Ryan, and Michael Conner, all of Palmdale, California; David and Stephanie Lape of Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 22, 1995, in the Williams Funeral Service Chapel with the Rev. Richard M. Webster and the Rev. A. Lee Zehmer officiating. Interment with Military Honors and Masonic Rites will follow in the Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, August 21, 1995, at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, Va. 23060. Arrangements by Williams Funeral Service, Lexington.
