​John Thompson Wilson was  born on September 13, 1838, Timber Ridge, Rockbridge County to James Patton Wilson.  Enl. Lexington 6/8/61, Teacher. Present until WIA (hand) 2nd Manassas 8/309/62. Present until WIA (thigh) Chancellorsville 5/3/63. Disabled and detailed in QM Dept. Retired to Invalid Corps 2/10/65. Assigned to post duty, Lexington 3/3/65. NFR. Gd. Baltimore Dental College. Dentist, Lexington. Member Lee-Jackson Camp, Confederate Veterans, Lexington. d. There 6/12/99. Bur. Stonewall Jackson Cem. “A brave soldier.”

On reaching manhood he removed to Augusta County, Va., near Staunton; Secretary Mountain City Lodge, No. 67, A. F. and A. M., Va; was Master Mountain City Lodge, No. 67, A. F. and A. M., Va.; Secretary Rockbridge Royal Arch Chapter, No. 25, Va.; High Priest Rockbridge Royal Arch Chapter, No. 25, Va.; District Deputy Grand Master of Masons, District No. 37, Va.; president Y. M. C. A. Lexington, Va.; Secretary and Treasurer Rockbridge County Fair Company; Secretary and Treasurer Rockbridge Mutual Fire Insurance Company; Local Treasurer Life Insurance Company of Virginia; Local Treasurer Old Dominion Building and Loan Association, Richmond, Va.; Local Agent National Building and Loan Association, Staunton, Va.
