Mountain City Lodge No. 67 - Lexington, Virginia
From the East

Brethren….

My thanks to you all as we navigate ourselves through another congested series of degree conferrals.  Your support of the candidates is very much appreciated.  We have also had to be mindful of of Grand Lodge requirements for the advancement of candidates and officers.  Many thanks are to do several of the Brethren, RW Scott, SW Brent and JW John in particular.  Our candidates will be "Duly and truly prepared".

Thanks to RW Joe Boatwright too who is monitoring and coaching our officers as they prepare for advancement.

I do appreciate Brother Buswell's patience with me waiting for my article...  These last few days have been very hectic around the Morman household and it hasn't been a lot of fun at times.

Lastly, Brethren.... My sincere thanks for the messages of support as I've gone through this surgery.  It's been an experience made much easier by your friendship and support.  While we await final  results, Mary Jo and I are optimistic that the cancer has been removed.

More than anything, my thanks are simply inadequate when it comes to my wife, who has been beyond amazing.

So many thanks spread all round.  Hoping to be fully participating in the very near future!!!

Fraternally,

WM John Morman

Mile of Pennies Fundraiser

Do you know how many pennies make a mile? A total of 84,480 pennies side-by-side make a length of one mile, and that translate into $844.80 for the Masonic Home of Virginia's Outreach Program. So can we have your used pennies? Bring cash, coin, or check to next Stated Communication.

Is it True...?

In 2008 I attended a special church service in Lexington to hear from Rev. Ron Carlson.  I was excited to hear he was speaking on Apologetics and interested in learning more about his talk on cults.  He covered many cults during his talk and then to my dismay he ended with Freemasonry.  I was shocked at his arrogance as a non member citing several untrue things about our beloved fraternity.  Have you ever encountered this at church or in the community?  At your pleasure read the pdf book, “Is it True What They Say about Freemasonry?”   Written by two expert Masons Art de Hoyos and Dr. Brent Morris as they tackle several myths and known attackers of Masonry.  Oh, and there is a chapter on Rev. Carlson...

York Rite in Rockbridge County
(Meet on 3rd Monday; 6:15pm Dinner, 7pm Meetings)

Rockbridge Royal Arch Chapter No. 44 will have a Past Grand High Priest present more information on our SIX degrees at our meeting. Additionally, Moomaw Commandery No. 27 of Knights Templar will gather to organize a very large exemplar team to practice a full form opening and reception of the Grand Commander in advance of the official visit later this summer. We’re happy that many of our members have caught up on dues and both organizations are in strong shape. There are 40 Royal Arch Masons, and 27 Knights Templar. We are finalizing a plan for a Almoner (fundraising officer) for Royal Arch and the Knights have stepped up to each donate a little more to our international Eye Foundation. If you want to learn more about these additional masonic experiences, contact Jesse Lyons.

The Great Light of Masonry

That great light in Masonry is our own volume of sacred law.  The Holy Bible is commonly thought of as one book, because it is contained between two covers.  It is in reality a library of 66 books. 39 in the Old Testament and 27 in the New Testament .  These books represent the sacred literature of the Hebrew race and are the product of many centuries of varied authorship  and subject matter.  They combine law, history, poetry, philosophy, biography, ethics and the revelation of the Divine Truth and Light.

The Holy Bible is the world's supreme record of man's experience with faith.  It is the Mason's trestle board  in character building , that important duty to which you have dedicated yourself  and have been emblematically presented the tools of a degree.

In this Holy Book are laid down the principles of correct living. Its great men loom large upon the background of world history, they lived, they fought, , they loved, they sinned, they repented; and they have left behind them here in this Holy Book, the testimony that the keeping of God's law and the doing of God's will are the only things in this life worth living for.

We need to know our Bible, to learn the precepts, to reverence it as our Great Book Friend.  And my brethren, that your feet may not stumble  and that your pathway through life may be well lighted.

Read it frequently, carefully and thoroughly  and use it as a rule and guide  in your earnest effort to become a better man and a better Mason, a credit to the lodge you are a member and as an asset to the community wherein you may at any time reside.....
