Mountain City Lodge No. 67 - Lexington, Virginia
From the East

Brethren…

As I’ll continue to mention, please consider stepping up and accepting a part in our degree teams, in particular the Master’s Degree.  We are always grateful for the Brethren who come to our Lodge to assist us, and of course they are always most welcome.  It would be a benefit to us, and certainly make life simpler for our Senior Warden who currently wrestles putting together a degree team every time we carry out a conferral.

Second, my thanks to those who have already signed up to help on July 4th for the Children’s Bike Parade.  We are again giving out the hotdogs and soft drinks at W&L, and could use everyone who can spare a few hours.  This year we will also have two Clowns from our Kazim Shrine Clown unit on hand to entertain the kids after the parade.

As you will be seeing in a letter shortly, we will be raising our Lodge dues to $80 per month.  The letter will explain the reasoning more fully, and will also discuss briefly the review we will be carrying out of our Initiation Fee structure.  To put it bluntly, the Officers and the Trustees are not prepared to see the Lodge continue to subsidize fees placed upon us.  Our basic functions will have to operate at least a “net zero” basis.  Similarly, our treasurer is reviewing meal expenses to ensure that meals for Stated Communications and snacks for Degree work at least break even.  More on forthcoming changes to Lodge finances will be reported by the Trustees at the July Stated.  We have a financial duty of care to the Lodge, and to that end I would urge every Brother who is delinquent on Lodge dues to make contact with the myself, the Secretary or the Treasurer to discuss how best he can get current again.

I know this article may seem unduly negative, or even harsh, and if you see it as such that is not my intent and I apologize for creating that impression.  However, as Masons we owe it to ourselves and our Lodge to be responsible.  All of the great work we do carries an operating cost that we alone must bear.

As Master I serve you and will continue to do my best for you.

Fraternally,

John Morman
Worshipful Master

Mile of Pennies Fundraiser

Do you know how many pennies make a mile? A total of 84,480 pennies side-by-side make a length of one mile, and that translate into $844.80 for the Masonic Home of Virginia's Outreach Program. So can we have your used pennies? Bring cash, coin, or check to next Stated Communication.

Royal Arch & Knights Templar
The Companions and Sir Knights will meet again on the third Monday of the month with a 6:15pm dinner and 7pm meeting. Most time will be focused on Commandery practice for receiving the Grand Commander on June 30 in Clifton Forge. There is a festival to join Knights Templar on June 23—any Companion of the Royal Arch who wishes to continue in York Rite and join the Commandery will need to let me know by Monday afternoon.
Lodge Clean Up
Wor. Jesse Lyons and S.W. Brent Fellows oversaw a dozen KA undergraduate fraternity brothers in the lodge last Friday to help with continuing projects. In addition to vacuuming the lodge and cleaning all wood chairs and other with pledge, we cleaned out the storage closet, cleaned out and organized the material that was in the dining hall (tossed, boxed, organized, archived), removed all but 3 old Templar frocks, and more. The Lodge library has been reconstituted in the bottom of the display cabinet in the dining hall.
Let Gratitude be your Attitude - Every Day of your Life is a Gift
Don't squander it.  Don't waste it be being angry with anyone.  Don't let it slip away by feeling sorry for yourself.  Be GRATEFUL for this precious gift of life and spread it by being as happy and as thankful as you possibly can. Let your mind dwell on the good things which have happened to you.

"LET GRATITUDE BE YOUR ATTITUDE"......

Think of your assets and don't let anyone else spoil your day for you.   Enjoy every day of your life to the fullest.  Realize that you can add to the joy of each day by making someone else happy.  Don't carry grudges.  Forgive.  Resentment only hurts you, not the other person.

Each morning when you get out of bed, say, "THANK" when your first foot touches the ground , and say,  "You "when your second foot touches the ground.  "THANK YOU."
