Trestleboard, February 2017
Mountain City Lodge No. 67 / Lexington, VA
From the East
Brethren,

As we enter into this new year, we the Lodge as a whole are blessed! We have had the fortune, since the first of the year, to confer the EA degree on four good men: Thomas Randolph Wagner, Steven Wayne McNeil, Robert Lewis Wilson III, and John Davis Brandt, and we have six more to go. WOW: way to go, Brothers!

As Master of Mountain City # 67 I could not be prouder of my Brothers. I want to thank all of the ritual team for a great job, and the Brothers who came out to support the degrees. Special thanks to RW Robert Agnor for his always great lecture and also to RW Joe Boatwright – and again to RW Agnor for keeping us on target at practice.

Brothers, during the time of preparation and during the degrees themselves I was struck hard by the wisdom of our founders: more especially during the destitution section where we ALL were asked the same question – and then in the lecture when we learned WHY; how we as Masons are called to judge a man not for his intrinsic value, political views, race, or religious beliefs (so long as he looks to GOD) but that he is a man of good report and good inner worth and well-recommended.

So with this in mind in the days, months, and years to come, when you step up to the ballot box keep these very important founding fundamentals in mind. I know I will.

Fraternally,

God Bless,
John J. Mulligan WM
York Right Update: February VA Joining Festivals

Brethren, the companions of our Rockbridge Royal Arch (RA) chapter and Moomaw Knights Templar (KT) Commandery are excited to announce two upcoming “festivals” where members may join.

Royal Arch degrees are in Front Royal on February 18 at 9am, and one week later on February 25, the Knights Templar orders are in Winchester at 9am.

To receive a petition, contact Jesse Lyons ([email protected]), RA High Priest, or Torben Pederson ([email protected]), KT Emminent Commander. We will both hold a special meeting to vote on your petition. They are due in by February 3rd so we can vote.

Royal Arch Joining Fee - $50 due with petition. Annual Dues - $45.

Royal Arch is a continuation of the ancient stories, values, and ritual from the Symbolic (Blue) Lodge.

Knights Templar Joining Fee - $125 due with petition. Annual Dues - $60.

Knights Templar is the Christian militaristic branch of masonry.

We meet on the 3rd Monday, have a program and dinner, and are re-energizing both organizations for 2017.

Masonic Wisdom:

“‘Grant me the bliss without end;
Amen! Amen! so mote it be!
Now sweet lady pray for me.’
Thus thou might say, or some other thing,
When thou kneelest at the sacrament.
For covetousness after good, spare thou not
To worship him that all hath wrought;

…That Saint Austin telleth full right,
That day thou seest God's body,
Thou shalt have these full securely:-
Meat and drink at thy need,
None that day shalt thou lack;
Idle oaths and words both,
God forgiveth thee also;
Sudden death that same day
Thee dare not dread by no way;
Also that day, I thee plight,
Thou shalt not lose thy eye sight.”

–The Regius Poem - oldest extant Masonic manuscript
